Welcome to Term 4

Kia Ora and welcome to Term 4. We are all very excited to start the Term with a bang! Room 17 is doing the New Zealand Healthiest Challenge. Our pedometers have arrived and the students are working hard to get to 10000 steps a day. We are also taking part in the build a garden competition. This is an exciting way to get the students involved in creating a garden and looking after God's creation. There are other exciting events planned for this Term so keep visiting our page.

Science Experiment about Meat

This week, Room 17 wanted to find out which technique tenderizes meat effectively. The piece of steak was cut against and with the grain. Then soy sauce, baking soda and a tenderizing tool was used to tenderize the meat.

We cooked the meat and tasted to see which one was less chewy. We found out that the against the grain, tenderized meat was less chewy. The meat that was cut with the grain was more chewy. The science is related to the fibers in the meat which was very interesting.

Egg and Vinegar Experiment

This experiment was a hit. The children really enjoyed watching the outer shell of the egg dissolving in the vinegar. The egg in the water remained the same.

Welcome to Term 2

Kia Ora and welcome to another exciting Term. This Term our focus is Science and we are looking at the Material World Strand of Science. This strand digs deeper into the changing states of matter and the effects of heating and cooling. All this relates to the world we live in and how it works.

We have started with our Immersion where the students go to different classes and experience some scientific methods of heating and cooling. Here are some photos:
